Frequently asked questions
What is a credit?
A credit is the unit you spend on assessments. A full patentability assessment is 10 credits, split across its four stages: literature search (1), novelty analysis under EPC Art. 54 (4), inventive step under Art. 56 (4), and claim strategy (1). Credits cost less per unit in larger bundles — from €50 each on the Regular bundle down to €25 each at volume (see Pricing). New accounts get 5 free credits to explore — enough for a literature search and novelty check, not a full assessment. Automatic credit expiry is not enabled in Phase 1; account adjustments are handled manually.
How is this different from a traditional patent search?
Traditional patent searches cost €2,000–3,000 and take 2–4 weeks. Patentopia uses AI to search 130M+ records from Crossref and EPO in minutes, delivering structured reports with per-reference justifications at a fraction of the cost.
What does the patentability score mean?
The patentability score is an AI-generated assessment based on EPC standards. It evaluates novelty (Art. 54) and inventive step (Art. 56) of your invention against existing prior art, giving you a clear picture of your patent prospects before engaging an attorney.
Do I need a patent attorney after using Patentopia?
Yes — Patentopia is a pre-filing intelligence tool, not legal advice. Our assessments help you understand your patent landscape and strengthen your application before you engage an attorney, saving you significant time and money in the process.
What happens after I pay?
Payment is handled securely via Stripe. Your credits are added to your account immediately and you can start an assessment right away. Full assessments complete in 5–8 minutes with real-time progress, and you can download the report as a PDF.
